Our new geothermal heat pump has been installed 2 weeks ago. I just noticed pipes are sweating too much or there is too much condensation on the pipes. Is this normal? I spoke to the contractor and he said that he will put insulation in them and he said that it is normal. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Connie

Hi Connie,

Condensation is normal, insulating them is the proper way to solve the problem

Cold system insulation to be successful must be complete, without air gaps or uninsulated valves, fittings, etc. Any surface that is missed will be a drip until covered. The drips will be stains or corrosion in short order. Insulating cold surfaces is much more work than for hot because of dealing with condensation.
Be sure to express your desire for a first class job with correct materials the first time as call backs for 'minor' stuff like this will probably get you on the ignore list.
Home improvement stores don't usually carry a complete enough line of materials for proper cold work either.

Thank you for the info. It is very much appreciated. I just wish I knew everything what to expect having this new geo heating and cooling system after installation. But one thing I can tell, it is so much comfortable right now! wow 70 degrees inside while it's so cold in 48 degrees outside! We are all loving it especially my husband. No more playing with the thermostat (as advised!)
