I'm very new to this system, I just moved into a new house and I have approx a 15 yr old Water Furnace geo-system.  The problem I'm having is that my aux heater is turning on more than i would like and is causing me massive heating bills.  My aux power currently is jumpered to two relays and then wired to the aux heating elements.  What is the best by to bypass this, or somehow limit how much my aux system is turning.
Any suggestions would help.

Thanks

I can't say for sure on a 15 year old system, but on my new system it's just a matter of flipping a Dip switch on one of the circuit boards. I found it listed in my manual, do you have any documentation on the sytem? I kept every scrap of paper that came with my system. If you don't have a manual, perhaps you can download something from Waterfurnace by providing them with a model number.

Open up the bottom of the unit, usually the installer leaves the install manual inside it so the next person that services the unit has a clue what to do.

Wouldn't the simplest thing to do is flipping the big breakers off in the electrical panel? Very obvious they are off and you can easily flip the breakers on or off as needed.

Unless there is a reason you shouldn't do it that way?

Simplest yes, but in the current model WaterFurance units the blower and AUX heat are on the same circuit, turning it off would greatly reduce air flow out of the heating vents.  I can't say if older models are designed this way.

Find out which wire carries the signal from the tstat to the heat pump and disconnect it. It is usually the "w " or "w2" wire

I think the first thing you should do is have the unit checked. If the strip heat is running a lot it could be a symptom of a problem.
