I'm trying to find a direct vent propane stove to heat my 725 s.f. house. I'd like to buy the Santa Fe by Hearthstone but the County won't let me because the AFUE is only around 65% or something like that. They tell me I need 78% or better. I LOATHE forced air furnaces. So, I'm looking for a propane stove or even a wall furnace. I found a wall furnace with an 83% AFUE but it is quite expensive. I think it is a Monitor. Does anyone know of a stove that would satisfy, a gas fireplace that would satisfy, or failing that a wall furnace that doesn't cost the earth?
Many thanks.

I have a Sante Fe in my ICF home, and we used it as a core heater when I was experimenting with different types of heating systems. Do not confuse some of the energy ratings and the steady state efficiency ratings of this or other stoves. Although I only used it rather continuously for one season, I never would have considered anything in the 60%+/- range when I put it in. We now use it for ambience' instead of large area heating.
I would talk to the Hearthstone people, and let them provide you with the documantation you need to use it in such a small area. It will heat up to 1800 sq. ft, but it won't change temps quickly for that amount of area, so your small home should be able to use it more effectively.
Take Care
