I am wondering if anyone has any experience  insulating a fieldstone basement.  The best way I'm sure is to spray closed cell foam over the entire wall, but this is beyond the budget.  I was thinking about taking some foam board, pushing it up to the wall(which is fairly flat) and then seal along the bottom and top(into the band joist) with spray foam.  I am wondering if the inevitable air space between the foam and the fieldstone will cause any problems?  Has anyone else had any luck with anyother methods?
Thanks,
Dave

As you won't have any air infiltration issues, why not check into open cell foam, or consider framing a wall close to the stone and use blow-in cellulose.

Is blown in cellulose a good idea for basment wall insulation? Sounds like a mold haven.

You can buy closed cell spray foam kits and do it yourself. Search spray foam (ebay) or tiger foam (google).
