Just got an email from HGTV and link regarding the Green Home they are building.  Has anyone paid attention to this up to this?  I hadn't up to this point, but when I saw it I was flabbergasted.  Here they are touting how green the home is - yeah right.

Recycled this and that throughout.  Big deal.  The basement walls are constructed of standard formed concrete, not ICF.  The basement floors have NO insulation underneath.  The walls are standard stud construction.  This is their idea of green?!  If I could find where to contact them I would, but that's pretty well hidden on that section of their site.

So I see it as: yeah they saved a little of energy -maybe, maybe not, in their purchase of recycled building materials.  But in the end the poor sap who owns the house will end up paying far more energy costs than if it had really been built green.  We should ask them how many LEED points they achieved!

Blows me away they ingore today's proper practices totally and consider it green.

Have not see the program even though I do watch a lot of HGTV.
I'm with you 100% about what I will call OLD SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS.
