for those of you not familiar with hugh piggot of scoraig wind electric, here is some really interesting reading for building your own axial flux windmill from scratch.
LINK
the generator is built from 13" brake rotors or flat plate steel.
power is made with incredibly strong rare earth magnets.
how to build a simple coil winding machine to make your own coils.
how to build the stator assembly.
blades are carved from regular dimention lumber glued and laminated together.
the frame and pole are from new or salvaged materials.

this is not a toy, but a real high performance wind generator that is really worth considering.
building one of these could become a very addictive hobby.
others have been built with 100% salvaged parts like brake drums(radial flux), front strut and spindle assembly from a volvo and some other ingenius ideas from salvaged parts like a washing machine motor from a fisher paykel washing machine.

if you have wind and like to build stuff, this is a winter hobby that is sure to keep you busy.
research is having confidence in nonsense. - burt rutan
