Author Messages Oldest First Newest First ED C Registered Users Posts:4 06/27/2008 8:30 AM   greetings; i have four collectors (4'x10' copper 1 inch headers) which i plan to set up  two ea. feeding a 3/4 copper coil in one 200 gal tank & then series to the next two feeding another 200 gal tk. & coil. & back to the original two. will need approximately 140' of tubing using a grundfos UP26-64F & glycol solution. i'm not sure about flow, should i use 3/4  or 1 inch pex tubing. would like the 3/4 (cost & much easier to run & insulate)? any suggestions relating to this or the installation in general would be greatly appreciated. ed c squatter Registered Users Posts:2 07/16/2008 5:40 PM   greetings, the smaller the diameter the higher the head loss. with increasing head loss the collector heats up too much and energy losses are the consequence. if too hot material (pex) may fail. re# copper coil: if copper coil=heat exchanger and tank pressurized, then OK, else: think about the discharge curve (very hot initially, rapid cooling effect, inert convection in tank, ...chinese setup). have solved the problem in connecting the copper coil to my old electric geyser serving as buffer tank. before doing that people were just regulating water flows and not showering. squatter
