Does anyone know if is worth it to purchase the optional low-E 366 option in Jeldwen Premium Vinyl?
I am still working on what the differences are. Standard is described as low-E. The option is low-E 366.
I have attempted to attach their rating info.

OK, standard is u=0.31 ; shgc = 0.27 these are Low-E 272, and are energy star......no longer eligable for the meager tax credit.
the option I am thinking of is low-E 366, which is u=0.31, shgc = 0.18
So, quesiton is, is the shgc worth more money. I am working on how much.
The thing about the tax credit is:
1) it is not for new construciton, as I read it;
2) if it was, it is capped at 1500 total, except Geo, whcih I am doing, and there are many other things than widnwos you can take off.
Seems to not be a consideration.
thx. PS: It is odd that dealers are touting the tax credit, when the energy star site says it is only for rennovations. |

Jim,
The tax credit for replacing windows in your primary residence is 30% of the cost of the product up to $1,500. A lower SHGC can help ease your cooling bills in NC (I believe that is where your profile listed you). I would double check to see why you can't get a window that meets the =< 0.30 u-factor and =< 0.30 SHGC. A $1500 tax credit should easily offset the additional cost.
