I have been given a quote with the Quietside dual purpose water heater DPW 099A to replace our heat/hot water tank in a condo. The quote for the unit and to install it which includes a new coil and drain plan is $4,500-5,000 US.

Two questions:
Is this a good product?
Is this a reasonable price for what I'm getting? I've seen the unit for sale online for about $1000 US.

Part of my hesitation is that I live in Canada and Quietside has limited business in Canada. Concerned that servicing could be a problem.

I've had a SMALL amount of exposure to this product and I have 1 concern. If it goes out, you have no hot water AND no heat. Then what? You said you live in Canada and winters (obviously) can be rough. Do you have a back up system like a wood burning stove or something to get by while you wait for parts?

I'd rather seperate my systems, but that may just be my personal preference.

Thanks for your thoughts.

We live in an urban condo so the dual system is required, no back-up exists.

Our other option is to stay with the current system which needs repair, also dual. What we like is that we can get rid of the tank and use it for storage.

The overarching concern is that if it breaks (not sure how big an issue this is) we will be stuck with a major repair and Quietside units don't appear to easily serviced here in Toronto.

I want to save water as it's preferable to be environmentally smart but it has to make overall sense for such an expensive project.

consider a Navien Combi condensing tankless 98% efficient: http://www.navienamerica.com/product/combi_01.aspx?skin=combi_01
