Hey, I am getting ready to build a house on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. I am trying to find a Eco septic sytem design that I heard of. It uses three different tanks made of cinder blocks. The third tank involves a charcoal filtering layer. Any help is appreciated Thanks Tom

There are ecological alternatives to a conventional septic system. One alternative is the use of a black water bed. This process cleans the waste using plants, returning only clean water to the environment.

I'm not sure what the eco advantage is - it's natural waste and any correct septic system will decompose it to harmless substances. But use multiple chambers to optimize performance. Add aeration if you are really concerned.
