should you wrap pvc pipe when it passes through concrete.   i see it being done.  i assume the pvc reacts to the concrete in a bad way.   what is the best material to wrap the pipe with?  is the wrapping only important as the concrete cures or is it needed longterm?  does it apply to plumbing as well as electrical pipes?

No reaction to concrete,  but it is common to "sleeve" pipes water and sewer in case concrete cracks and moves it won't fracture the PVC. This is easily accomplished with the next bigger size pipe used for sleeve(sewer) and for water pipes foam insulation can be used
