Considering very high labor prices in Southern California, we're considering a possibility to hire an out of area crew to help us to build an ICF base shell - foundation, walls, roofs and windows. San Diego market is not dead ( considering recent fire events), however Phoenix and Las Vegas markets are. These cities are within a few hours of driving distance of San Diego. A crew can be home on weekends during the constructon. Ana the labor prices out there are considerably lower, than in San Diego area. How common such a practice is? Will the labor savings be significant to cover additional living expenses for the crew? Please, post your thoughts. Or even phone numbers of ICF contractors willing to build an ICF shell (house) is San Diego. Thanks.

Disclaimer: I'm not a builder (but am interested reader). I have been a resident of Ca for about 15 years now.
THE thing I'd check out before importing a crew from out-of-state is workman's compensation issues. One way or another the crew would have to be covered.
Worse, the workman's compensation rules (and rates) in Ca tend to change periodically because it's a political football. |

You can hire an out of state crew, but they need a CA license and worker's comp and G.L ins. add all that in and all of sudden they are close to the same price as the local crew...plus travel and accomodations fees...did you save anything now?
