We have completed our shell, with many concrete columns and ICF walls, these are now flush. I cannot assume that you would put drywall directly over the concrete columns without a barrier? if you use furring strips then you are no longer flush with the ICF walls, which would then require furring strips as well.  Sort of defeats some of the purpose and adds additional labor/construction costs?  What am I missing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kristie

Suggst using products like Hydostop, Sealoflex, Aqualock, etc. You can seal the concrete with any of these before covering. Are you using DensArmor paperless gyp on you project? This will help with any wallboard moisture issues.

This sounds like a problem that should have been addressed at the design stage. It also depends where these columns are. Are they interior load bearing columns or do they have a side exposed to the exterior? If they have exterior exposure do you have any foam on their exterior? Where is the dew point going to be in the wall. It would help to see the plan and know the climate. Waterproffing the concrete and using Dens Armor Plus as FlaICf suggests in definitaly an option but even with the paperless drywall you don't want to create a situation where water could condense between the drywall and the concrete for some reason. If you have a PDF or photo of the plan private email it tto me.

yes the columns will be exposed outside, they are load bearing, yes, this should have been addressed in the design phase however was overlooked? however we have also 2 columns in our elevator shaft that would not be exposed as they are interior. I will gladly send you the file. Please email me directly at [email protected] and I can return the file to you. Thank you for your suggestions
