I have a client who wants to attach some log pieces, approximately 18"x 12" to the exterior of the ICF wall to give it the appearance that the log goes through the wall giving it a Southwestern look. Any suggestions on how to attach the pieces so that no mounting brackets or connecting parts can be seen. It's in the drawing stage and could easily be incorporated into the initial pour.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

dmoravek1,
Take your log end piece, drill a 1 1/2 inch hole the one end 6 inches deep. Use a 4" by 4" piece of 1/8" plate steel and drill a hole in the center at 13/16" then drill 4 holes 1/4" in each corner. Weld a 3/4" nut to one side of the the steel centered on the 13/16" hole. Center the plate over the 1 1/2" hole in the log end piece, mark the edges of the plate steel, use a chisel to inset the plate. Put the plate back on the log and drill 4 pilot holes in the corners for lags. Lag it together.
Now drill a 7/8" hole in you concrete wall 4" to 6" deep. Epoxy set a piece of 3/4" all thread in the hole. Let set for 24 hours. Attach the log by turnning it onto the 3/4" bolt and there you go.

weld a titen hd by Simpson to a lag bolt, (nut end welded to nut end) Install the titen hd into the concrete, Predrill your log to allow it to thread onto the lag bolt.
