Hello,
New home construction and my husband and I are doing most of the work. Just wondering if there are any things you would recommend modifying or doing differently when installing a pre-hung extior door to the ICF walls?
We're hanging the door that will go from our house to the garage, it's a solid core steel pre-hung. My husband has hung doors in regular stick-frame walls/houses, but we weren't sure if there were steps that should change because of the ICFs.
any tips/suggestions would be great. Thanks!

This is somewhat simple, but the one thing I would suggest is make sure you hang the door from the side of the wall into which the door will open. That is, if the door will open from the house into the garage, then mount the door flush with the garage side of the ICF wall. Or vice-versa. This will eliminate the posssibility of the hinges binding or of the door not being able to open completely without hitting the wall. Its also easier to apply jamb extensions, if door swing is not an issue.

We order our doors without a brickmold on the jamb and use just a standard jamb width as getting one that makes up the thickness of your wall is costly. WE jamb out with a 3/4 MDF extension jamb that is site built for that application. We have used also oak veneer plywood for a fancier look to. We keep our hinges to the side where our door swings into so we do not hinge bound the door swing.
