My house has been ordered. Actually it is a dry shell. 3500 sq.ft. 2 story. lower floor has a 4'X12' "pop out" in the kitchen. We are getting bids on windows and are leaning towards Milgard. They are made in Hollister Calif. just about 100 miles from here. Other less expensive options are Alpine and Ansco. I have not heard very much positive about JenWeld (Home Depot sells them). Milgard, Alpine and Ansco all have lifetime warranties, but I don't know exactly Alpine or Ansco's warranty. Milgard will send someone out to fix it if it breaks, this I know first hand from a coworker who had a window fail. Another guy I know had a JenWeld window fail and after jumping through a bunch of hoops, he finally gave up and had it replaced with a Milgard.
I also found a reputable glass company who has a "bone yard" with Milgard and we can fill some of our needs from him (A French door normally $2,400 for $900) and some other Misc. items.
Has anyone had any experiences with Alpine or Ansco?

Do you mean Alenco? I have used Alenco therml break aluminum windows with no issues. I have done a couple of projects with the vinyl windows as well. My experience with one of the projects was a nightmare.

I got involved in managing a stick project. We got rolling before subs were on board and were using a modified version of a plan that was found in an architect book. The version didn't work so the plans were purchased. The window schedule was horrible using a table to reference actual window sizes that didn't match regular window sizes. The framer helped us out by not using the correct configuration of the sizes chosen to approximate the windows that were supposed to be in the table. The scaled windows were a different size so we ended up with extras which was ok because the plan failed to take the view into account and we ended up adding some windows and eliminating some doors.

So we were on the second order for windows when we ran into the issues with Alenco. We ordered the windows in the front with divided light. The patterns didn't line up. It took over four months to resolve the issue with the rep coming out on multiple occassions to measure for replacement inserts done by a local glass company. It was a nightmare. The good news is that they took responsibility for their error. The bad news is that they took a long time to get it right.
