Any tips on installation of windows and doors related to differences such as firing and or nailing/attaching. WHat intructions should we give to door and window trrades that have not done SIPs before? Thanks guys!

The main thing you have to keep in mind is the thickness of the SIP panel. For instance, if the panels will be 6-1/2 inch thick and you add ½ inch drywall, you must specify that your window and door jams would be 7-1/16 inch wide. To put it simply, add 9/16 to the thickness of the panel for your jam widths if you are planning on using ½ inch drywall. Give your SIP dealer the rough openings of your doors and windows, and your windows will just slip in. Put a bead of general adhesive along the bottom of the window rough opening before setting the window. This will prevent any air leaks along the bottom of the window. Make sure the window is level and plumb using shims to be sure. I like to use galvanized roofing nails to nail the nailing fin to the OSB. Then run a bead of non-expanding foam around the edges of the windows between the rough opening and the jam to stop air leaks around the window.
