Just found this resource and have already picked up some great info...thanks!

We are closing on a building lot next week and plan to go with SIPs for construction.  During a  prelimary meeting with a house plan we liked, it was pointed out to us that the roof was fairly large and complicated...that it would be better if we could find an elevation with a less complicated roof.

We plan to be in this house for the next 20 years or more (growing old in it!) and have been mainly looking at single story floor plans around 3,000 sq. ft.   I have looked for SIPs plans specifically in that size range, but they all are 2 story.

Does anybody have any sources for SIP's specific house plans they could pass along so we could check out the possibilites....at this point it looks like we will need to pay a premium on the roof to get the interior layout we really want.   Thanks for your help!

RDL,

Take a look at this site, they have a number of plans.  The one below is 3000, of which 800 is on the 2nd floor.  Not quite what you'd asked for, maybe close.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for that site...will be spending some time going through their plans this evening!

We are looking for one story as we need at least (2) and preferably (3)  bedrooms on the main floor.  Our floor plan of choice is:

But everything we are seeing is that the roof system with SIPs will cost us a larger premium.  Would love to find a similar, "SIPs ready" design that is similar, so we are continuing to look.
Thanks again for the link!

RDL

rdl,

I have yet to find a house plan that Enercept could not produce the SIPs for me.
My suggestion would be to talk to a manufacturer and possibly modify the roof
of the exact plan you really want to be more economical.
It is your house and you shouldn't have to compromise just to build better!

rdl,

As you’ve read many times in this forum, SIP’s are either a breeze or a nightmare. I think the deciding factors are excellent product, excellent planning, excellent designing, excellent engineering and excellent execution. As in any construction job, if any of these steps are missing, you’re going to have problems. What you want is a “kit” house, where all the pieces fit together like a big, first grader jig saw puzzle. That takes planning and engineering. My suggestion is to find someone with these attributes and ask for an estimate. Then have your builder and SIP supplier get together and formulate a construction plan, so everyone’s on the same page. It might cost a little more upfront, but you will save in the long run. It’s like the old adage “measure twice, cut once”.
