We have approved building plans for type 5 woodframe residential building and then we discovered SIP panels. We're now trying to adapt our approved plans to work with SIP panels but some contractor just told us that SIP pannels are not meant for custom designed home like ours and they not strong enough to carry stucco i.e. the stucco would be too heavy for the panels. Is this true? We would like to know more about these. What else do we need to know.

that some contractor does not know what they are talking about, most plans can be done with SIP construction, all we do is custom work, structurally SIPs are 3 times stronger than wood frame

I would have to agree with Chris, this contractor obviously has no idea what he is talking about. All of the SIP homes we build are custom designs, and being in Texas we are no stranger to Stucco.
The good news is that you now know not to use this contractor.

alfredanyia,

The first two replies you received are correct! All SIP's are far superior than wood, the reasons and facts are endless. We manufacture our SIP's for custom homes all the time.

alfredanyia,
We manufacture SIPs for custom homes all of the time and several of our homes are covered in stucco. Our customers have used cement and non cement stuccos with great results. We offer to our customers a total fabricated panel package with al the window and doors cut and blocked. All foam set backs compleated and plates included. All headers and structural LVLs included with the package. Please give us the opportuinty to quote on your requirments and look at our web site at sipsteamusa.com.
Let me know how I can be of additional help as I have been in the industry for 17 years.

I Know from personal experience that on the Titanwall sips panel an acrylic stucco can be sprayed directly to the panel without any wire or bonding agent. As for the wood based sips it is no different then the standard wall constuction.

We can get you information about a SIP type wall panel that is currently being built in new orleans, LA. It is approved for the hurricane force winds down there and also the stucco, hardie board, brick, siding, can be attached to its exterior. We are also putting up a custom deisgned house now in Miami-Dade county.

I'm in Louisiana, too. I'd like to review what information you have, as long as it's not OSB SIPS.

It's not OSB Sips. Its a pre-engineered insulated wall system. It is framed using 18 & 20 gauge steel and insulated with EPS core. You can read some more information about it at our website. www.epsfoamcenter.com

Please contact me so I can get you a free quote.

Did you really just post a client's address in a public forum?  Do you have the client's permission for that?

EPSFOAMCENTER, the site looks like a great resource for foam sheets for any application - don't know about price of course though.

The steel panel system isn't really a SIP is it. Are those floor joists hung directly from the steel members? How high can a wall be made? Do you have any construction details? How will it hold up in a hurricane? Thanks.
