Dear Friends,
Can any one help me providing the rough price idea per square feet or per hour or per sheet for the shop drawing of structural insulated panels.(Just the drafting work, No Engineering, NO Testing,No Construction training etc.) Generally, how the drafting companies charge for this.Hope you will do the needful. Thanks for all your help.

I am a little confused of what you are asking.  If you are asking what you can expect to pay for a set of house plans for a SIP home, you should expect to pay a standard rate $0.80 - $1.50.  Choosing to use SIPs over traditional framing should not effect the price of your house plans.  In my experience as a drafter, I have never charged extra because someone wants to use an alternative to traditional framing.  The difference from a drafters point of view is a difference of a line or two and a couple extra detail drawings that are usually downloaded from the manufacturers website.  But if you are wondering about the price for a panel by panel booklet of every SIP that it would take to build your house, i would suggest calling a manufacturer.  I assume these systems are designed and engineered much like truss systems.  A designer inputs all of the data into a computer then the computer generates drawings of each individual panel.  In this case, the engineering and the testing would be done by the computer at the same time it generates the drawings of the panels.  If this is the case you would need a full set of house plans before you request a SIP design package.

Hello Dirk,

We typically do not need a complete SIP design to start a package. Typically we will receive a set of plans that are for a conventional stick frame design and we will make the changes for SIP construction. We do not really charge for this and it is a part of the SIP package. We take the SIP design plans and create the SIP shop drawings for the manufacture. Most of the manufactures we work with use CNC machines so we format the .dwg file appropriately for there CNC program.

In most cases we can quote a SIP package with just a basic set of plans before they have been changed to SIP. Once we have agreed to the project we then create the SIP plans that the shop drawings are created from. In turn the SIP assembly drawings are created from the shop drawing set.

Thanks,

Thanks Matt,

So, your company does the design and engineering of the SIP structure but not the manufacturing?  Is this common practice in the world of SIPs?  I am generally new to a lot of green building techniques, and I started my web page to educate myself.
