I recently went on a serch with local installers for a high efficiency boiler to replace out old oil burning basement dinosaur,  not having much luck with what the local installers were offering (forced air retro, low efficiency "proven" (read - "high profit")gas boilers for $8,000 to $12,000 +, so after some research I purchased a Trinity boiler and all the necessary parts from an online dealer on the internet thinking that I might be able to replace our old  oil buner myself, or at the very least hire someone locally to do it, but after unpacking the new boiler and contemplating the scene before me,  I decided that I'd better stick to what I know and started out on my search for an installer,  but guess what, no luck... in fact the local installers are downright hostile at the thought of it... they do not offer the product locally,  "aint never seen one of them" or badmouth the new high efficiency technology,  and come right out and say that if they were to install it they would "need " the profit on the trinity even though they had nothing to do with providing it... so here I am... looking for an old guy with a stogy with enough hydronic knowledge to drain and remove the old system, hang the trinity on the wall, re fill and purge the the system and fire it up... now come on... it's just pipe... I know how it should go together... I can see the diagram and read  the directions... . it's all riight there...but  it requires a skill, tools and some knowledge that I don't have... I'm more then happy to pay the going rate... anyone out here near Tumwater WA wanting an easy $2,000 for a couple of days work at the outside??

If your distributor can't provide you with a local installer then maybe it's time to ship it back. If that's not an option, then you may find a local plumber or pipe fitter that is comfortable with installing the pipework. But a lot could go wrong with an improper boiler install - with deadly consequences.

it's a matter of pincipal now... I'm not sending it back even if I could... I've done my homework and I have a well sized high efficiency boiler with a domestic coil to boot... If i could have got that locally I would have... so yes, now I'm looking to hire a gas fitter with enough experience with boliers and high efficiency burners to pull off the swap... $2000. is on the table... you can see what it is from the diagram...
Mine is a single zone system of wallboard radiators... they all stay as is...  not exactly complicated...  any takers??

This is why buying boilers on the internet is a dicey proposition for one. Look at it from the boiler guy's point of view: it's not one day's work. As they say in the trades, "You touch it, you own it". When it breaks down, who are you going to call?

That's right.. the guy that installed it. And he's got to decide how much it's worth risking a few late sunday night no-heat calls for a piece of equipment he's never put in before and didn't make much profit on.

I'm not saying the $2k is a bad offer or anything, and I'm not saying your potential installers are in the right. Just trying to give the other side of the story. It's about more than a couple days' labor, most of the time.
