Hi,
A quick question - what, if any, impact would there be in using metal studs with radiant floor heating? Won't the metal studs conduct the heat very quickly (vs. interior wood framing)? Would that matter much?
Thanks,

that is a facinating question. if you were on a slab, it might make a difference. Otherwise I doubt you'd have a conductive path to the studs that would do much. |

As Rob says, it will, but not enough to matter because they're usually interior walls, so it stays in the envelope. We install alot in NYC where there is nothing else used but metal studs. I've never seen metal used as the sole support for the exterior walls. Most are concrete, brick etc, with steel framed windows. In this case, the metal framing is used in the heat loss calc. |
