The builder for my house is putting down a slab with a crawl space of 30" or so before the floor. There are no floor joists, but a bunch of 20-30 inch adjustable steel post like things. It's basically a raised floor above a slab. Can't say I understand the pros/cons of it, but it is very common here in Japan.
Please help me understand the choice here I have. Slab vs stable up in the crawl space vs a sub floor install like warmboard or a DIY sandwich install. If you have a choice, which would you use. It is not that cold here, about like north california or souther oregon. It is very humid though.
Installing a staple up system like the q-panels from warmmfloors.com is a snap with this crawlspace, but then doesn't the system have to warm up the whole 760 square feet of 30" of crawlspace before heating the floor and upwards. Not to mention the heat loss out the crawlspace sides and slab downward, it seams a hugely inefficient way to approach crawlspaces. Above subfloor options like warmbord or diy seem so much more efficient but so much more work.
Please help me understand.
