Hey guys, I finally finished installing all of my radiant heating components this summer(slab). I also have a regular forced air electric heat pump. Here is my question. I live in Alabama, where we don't regularly drop below freezing at night until late December/early January. I assume that once I have used the energy to heat up the slab and the ground beneath that I will want to keep it warm for the duration of the winter. A) do I wait until I am regularly experiencing cold weather to start using my radiant heat or B)do I go ahead and get the slab/ground warmed up while the temperatures are mild? I guess I am concerned with getting the floor and house all warmed up and then having a week of really warm weather and it becoming too hot in the house. Suggestions? Thanks

you do not want to start and stop the slab a lot. I would wait until your heat pump is not a great choice for heating anymore, then flip over the radiant until you're in warmer weather.

You will have a thermostat, so you won't have a week of warm weather over heat the house, but the thermostat may let all the heat bleed out of the slab over long off periods like that, and then you have to charge it all back up again.
