Hello all,
I am trying to trouble shoot our newly installed heating system, and would appreciate help...
The system comprises a back boiler on a wood stove, which feeds two radiators in neighbouring rooms.
The problems are...
1) The pipes leaving the stove are barely warm only a little above room temperature, even though a kettle placed on the stove top will become too hot to comfortably touch.
2) The system had a single header tank / expansion tank which is filling continuously from the expansion pipe, running at full speed!
I have tried changing the speed of the electric pump (thinking that the pressure must be too high) but even at its slowest setting the expansion pipe runs.
How should I proceed with my troubleshooting?
Thanks.

You need to find an installer who understands vented boiler systems, which is no small task in North America. Two suggestions: Esse, the British stovemaker, had US and Canadian dealers for its Ironheart cooker, and presumably trained installers. Tony Pitt is the North American contact: 1-877-740-3773. He may be able to point you to a qualified mechanic. My second suggestion is to ask this question at hearth.com, in the boiler room forum, and tell them where you live. I wouldn't fire the stove again until you are sure is properly installed.

Todd, thanks for the reply - I shall certainly inquire at hearth.com to get some opinions over there.
I should have mentioned that I am in the UK - the wood stove is manufactured by KingFire a company who seem to have no homepage, and hence I can find little information about their products.
Any further thoughts, greatly appreciated. |

Forget about hearth.com. Everything in the US is pressurized. You need to be here http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/?CategoryID=22
This link is broken, but the retailer can probably furnish a manual http://www.countryfiresdirect.co.uk/acatalog/User_Guides.html That said, I'd call a professional. |
