I'm going to be installing radiant floors in two bedrooms using ThermalBoard. The bedrooms are on top of one another, and the lower one is over a basement. The upper bedroom is slightly smaller, but the heat loss is higher, because of a bit more glazing and the surface area of the roof, primarily. Both bedrooms will be using the same temperature water. If I install the ThermalBoard on the entire floor areas of both bedrooms, the lower bedroom, having a lower heat loss but more surface area, will cycle more often. It seems like I could take a leap, trust my calculations, and omit some of the ThermalBoard in the lower bedroom. What do you think? Jeff

you could probably balance the flow down as well.

that said you probably don't want to zone rooms on different floors together. that's a bad idea.

Rob,

I'm not going to zone the rooms together; sorry that I gave you that impression. My only real question is "is it worth it to decrease the amount of tubing on the floor to get what I think will be a more consistently-on zone? Or, shoudl I take my on-off cycling and not worry about it?"

use a floor sensor and forget about it :D

or flow balance. I would not do partial floor coverage.

OK THEN!!! Thanks Rob. What kinds of thermostats would be useful here, then?

we like the tekmar 508's as a good, standard duty thermostat with logic and a floor sensor input.
