For a radiant system using a domestic hot water tank, whats the differance in using the side connections vs the top connections on the tank? (closed system)

I'm assuming that theres a reason that most radiant hookups are on the side, but will there be any harm in using the top connections instead?

I know a bunch of you on here have used hot water tanks for small heating applications. So which ports did you use, Side or Top? and why?

The dip tube and energy saving traps (often on the hot and cold fittings) and present an unknown pressure drop.

Water heaters with side taps have no pressure drop and are marked "Suitable for use as space AND water heating".

The more you get outside accepted and common practice (without professional guidance) the more risk you take; both financial and bodily harm.

Thank you, I was unsure if both connections had the same dip tub arrangement.

I will use the side connections for our setup.
