I have a 1600 sq ft concrete floor w/ radiant heating. Unfortunately the floor is banged up and there was an existing stain on it, and I'm looking to get it redone. I'd like to do a 1/4" concrete, self-leveling overlay. I was told this overlay is double the PSI of normal concrete, around 6000-6200 psi.

I was wondering if this would hinder the performance of the floor or hinder the passive solar heating of the floor as well? I'm looking to get it colored a dark grey w/ either an acrylic or 'PAP- poliaspartic poliureatane' sealer.

Any help would be great. I don't want to pay to do the overlay and mess up the heating. My other option is just 'polish' the floor but I don't want to see the aggregate, and some of the original stain might show thru.

Thanks,
Ryan

It is unlikely that a cap will change the performance of your radiant floor in any way, but an crack in the existing floor may draw sealers and other such chemical to the embedded tubing. I would like to know what they will use before proceeding.

This is the stuff the guy is planning on using for the overaly:

There are just a couple of cracks in the concrete. The sealer is either going to be an Acrylic Water Based, or the PAP Poliaspartic Poliureatane. The PAP is much harder and more expensive but supposively is bullet proof, where as the Acrylic sealer will have to be refinished every couple of years.
