I am purchasing a 2,500sqft home in mid-IL with existing baseboard heating. It is one story with full walk-out basement. Basement is finished. There is an existing smoke stack next to the water lines right before the gas fired boiler. I'm looking for a wood boiler that will heat the home, so I don't have to use propane. I would also like to run the domestic HW feed past the boiler before it gets to my electric HW tank. I just started searching and would like some steering in the right directions. Please advise, cad_il

Like all boilers yours should be properly sized to the load and radiation. You should consider, indoor, outdoor, fuel type and backup.

I prefer an indoor boiler, but outdoor boilers have there place, especially if the control and piping system are designed properly.
