Our installer said we should "Turn on and cycle our radian hydronic floor system once per month when not in use (Spring and summer) to prevent biolslime.

We are in southern  California where our moderate climate only demands heat about 3 or 4 months use out of the year.. does that mean I have to turn the temp up and leave each zone on for an hour or two

Any "work arounds" or is this necessary?

* We have a Taco solenoid valves -and a Laar tank w/Mascot boiler.

Thanks...John

the only reason to run a closed system is to keep pumps from freezing up. run the circulators occasionally. a minute or two is fine.

If the water in your pipes is the same water you drink, then you should consider a heat exchanger. but it doesn't sound like that's the case for you.

John,If you need assistance, sounds as if you are in Orange County. We are located in Anaheim. NRTRob is correct. Closed systems should have water treatment to prevent scale, algae, slime, sludge, etc.and also to control ph.Without water treatment, your system will fail prematurely, costing you lots of money and not to mention a lot of headaches.
