Hi,
While ago Dana and couple other people on this forum recommended HTP UFT-80W boiler for heating and hot water.
However I did run into few issues.
1. At first I have contacted HTP and ask if I can get this boiler directly from them or if they can tell me who carry this model. They told me to contact their rep from EMERSON SWAN. When I talk to the rep he gave me name of HVAC/Pluming house near me that carries HTP. I thought that should be easy since I know the place and some of the guys there. When I went and ask for HTP boiler I was told that they don't sell these, after little conversation I find out that the wholesale price they get from HTP or Emerson is comparable to retail and they would have to charge people way more money instead they decided not to deal with it and they refuse to sell these in first place.
2. OK this is not so good but I though there are other places that I can try, mainly online websites.
Well this is another surprise. Seems like not many places list this model and few that do they are out of stock. I don't know what is going on but it seems like this model is being discontinued, maybe along with UFT-120.
UFT-100 and UFT-140 are still available.

Right now I'm looking at HTP UFT100W and Navien NHB-55 or NHB-80. both Navien's modulate down to 8000 BTU The NHB-55 has ratio of 7 to 1 and NHB-80 has 10 to 1. HTP UFT100W modulates down to 10000 btu.
I only need to run my heating circuit at 120 degrees for my under floor radiant heat, this may not be hot enough to heat water in storage tank. I want boiler that can handle small btu loads since my house (ICF) at 9 degrees outside (dry bulb temp) calls for 27000 to 33000 BTU.

Here is my question is there another boiler (brand) that is recommended that can modulate down and provide heat and hot water?
Thank you. Jerry

We also had a recent issue procuring the HTP UFT-80W for a local client here in southern Oregon. Not sure what is going on with HTP as we never had issues in past. Anyhow, we ended up using an 89k 10/1 mod con from Lochinvar for this client:

https://www.supplyhouse.com/Lochinvar-WHB110N-89000-BTU-Output-Knight-High-Efficiency-Boiler-w-Fire-Tube-Heat-Exchanger-Wall-Mount

We don't like to recommend one brand over another for a number of reasons. Just size it properly, purchase a reputable brand from a reputable seller, install it properly, and you should be fine.

The Westinghouse WBRUNG-080W is exactly the same boiler as the UFT-080W under the paint. Home Depot used to carry them, but there are also other distributors.

The Lochinvar KHB/WHB-085 is pretty comparable in most respects, with a few more bells & whistles to the programming options. Like the UFT-series the KHB/WHB boilers have low pumping head water tube heat exchangers and usually don't have to be plumbed primary/secondary.

The Navien NHBs have comparable modulation ranges, but the water tube heat exchangers can't be pumped-direct in most systems, and MUST be plumbed primary/secondary.

Thank you for your responses
Lochinvar seem like very nice boiler but it is about $1500 more compare to HTP or Navien.
At this time I'm also looking at Weil-McLain AB-80H (H is for heat only boiler).

There are couple places that still have HTP and/or Westinghouse in stock however if this boiler is being discontinued I'm very leery about going with this model.
IS my concern valid? What about getting replacement parts in the future?
Does anyone has any recommendation between Weil-McLain vs Navien or something else besides HTP and Westinghouse
It seems to me that Weil-McLain may have better reputation vs Navien. But that could be only perception as Weil-McLain AB-80H is likely newer product.

At this time it looks like any boiler I will get I will have to install it myself. Weil-McLain seem to have simpler design with fewer bells and whistles which could be beneficial.

When it comes to gas boilers, you often get what you pay for. I would also suggest doing a Google search with the manufacturer and “problems complaints” in the search field before forming too strong an opinion about manufactures. If you go with the Navien, be sure to plumb primary/secondary as Dana properly pointed out. Really, plumbing primary/secondary is best practice no matter what boiler you use. I am not aware of the UFT-80W or the WBRUNG-080W being discontinued and I wouldn’t be concerned even if a model is being discontinued as long as the manufacturer and warranty were still viable. Manufacturers often discontinue models when they come out with newer models and you can sometimes get great cost savings on discontinued models. Gas boilers are typically not DIY projects and if there is a house fire caused by an illegal gas boiler installation, don’t count on the insurance company to reimburse you for the damages.

Hi,
For anyone interested in HTP UFT-80 boiler I did talk to HTP

a. Home Depot only sells Westinghouse models listed on HD website, other models cannot be ordered thru HD.

b. HTP won't sell HTP or Westinghouse boilers directly even if you go to their headquarters in MA.

c. They still make and carry HTP UFT-80 and Westinghouse WBRUNG-080 boilers and have big supply of these in the warehouse.

I also talk to distributor again and learned that in Northeast there are many resellers but one of the big sellers that also keeps many of HTP boilers in stock is F.W. Webb Company which I'm going to try next

Thanks Jerry.
