Hi,
I am planning new construction in central NJ. I am considering geothermal; trying to budget for heating and cooling. Does anyone have ideas on the cost to bore for vertical closed loop systems. I calculate aprox 8 tons for heating and cooling.  And would I save considerably by going Horizontal.  I have acerage available and I own a backhoe, could trench it myself.

There is a thread under this topic titled geothermal well cost. As you will see, it varies widely. If you have the acreage and can dig your own trenches, it should save you a bunch.

Good luck
