anyone have ideas... is adding radiant to a geo air system overkill? i am looking at 2 zones using water to air and then another water to water system for radiant and DHW... I'd like a nice efficient system, but not a waste of money

Is efficiency or comfort your top priority? Adding radiant will make it a lot more comfortable, not much more efficient. What is a waste of money is pretty subjective. I have seen this very thing done and none of those people thought they were wasting money. I have had other people say "no" to any type of geo system, saying it is "all a big waste of money."

thanks geodean... my true goal is comfort, or should i say keeping my wife from telling me she is cold... i like the idea of a dedicated water to water system, just trying to get over the initial $$ for the install... i know it will be worth it for the long haul since my only other option is propane

this is almost identical to my system, i use a 3ton forced air with a desuperheater, and a 2ton water unit to heat my basement floor, and my garage floor, and a third zone to heat my hot water. i will let you know the total cost once the install is complete. to date just the forced air unit is in operation, still waiting on my installer. the one thing my installer told me, he said if i was to have just put a 5 ton forced air in i would need the corresponding 5-ton sized loop, he said with this configuration you can get away with a loop that is a little smaller, he recomended a 4 ton loop for my system. perhaps geodean can share his expertise on this whether it is a good idea or not.
