I have quite rocky soil, (large sharp boulders) but would like to use geothermal for heating and cooling. I have space for about a 2000 gallon cistern and a source of water to fill it. Does anyone know the gallonage for a cistern used for geo ?? The cistern would be used for non-potable water storage and could be placed with about a 5' ground cover. I'm in SW Missouri. I would appreciate any input. Thanks, Jim

Depends on your heating/cooling load requirements. I am not a geo professional, but I don't think there is much htg/cooling capacity in 2000 gallons of water. Geo systems which use the pond as a medium are significant size (the pond that is). 2000 gallons of water in a pond would be like a drop of water in a 16 oz glass.
