You wonder why demand is so low for geo thermal; I tell you why. I posted a thread about looking into a geothermal system in lower NYS and i got a grand total of ZERO replies. I quess business is so good no one needs to respond.

Sorry you didn’t get the response you fill you deserved.  Please understand that there are many postings on this forum and yours may have been over looked.  Now that we see your posting how about supplying more information about what you are looking for.

    1. Is this new construction or retro fit?
    2. Are you located sub or country?
    3. How large (sq ft) home and how many floors?
    4. If a retro fit, what type of heating system is currently being used?

We look forward to your response…

Looking to retrofit a recently built house with a "hydro-air" system as cheaply as possible. Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Ok, after looking at your other post, I understand that this is a retro fit.  The turn off, at least to me is your suggestion of "as cheaply as possible". It tells me, and I might have it wrong, that quality is second place to cost.  You will be hard press to find someone to sacrifice the performace of a system to make it cheaply.

Generally there more money in installing Gas, Oil and Electric Central air conditoners. There's a hell of lot more of them, more service calls, more installations, more repairs. That's why there are so few Geothermal contractors to choose from, and if your lucky enough to have one in your area, they usually only specialize in one type of system, so your limited to what they offer. The Local installer in my area specializes in Open loop Florida heat pump geothermal systems, on the plus side, that's all they do, they don't service anything else, including my air source heat pump, so they must be good at what they do.

The Cycle is demand is low for Geothermal systems, so Few contractors can make a living at it, thus few choices in Geothermal systems, (and low competition) which in turn discourages prople from installing them, thus low demand, fewer contractors, fewer chioces, etc.

Unless government pushes things along, it could take a very long time before you can open your local phone book and have dozens of geothermal contractors listed in your area. One thing Government could do is require new developments to install geothermal systems, that in turn lower the demand of energy on the local utilities and create more customers in any given area to attract more contractors into the industry, which would offer more choices and encourage more people to install them in there own homes.

I'm looking to install a DX GHP. Does anybody know of any manufacturers other than ECR Earthlink, ETA Earth to Air, and Earthsource GeoDirect? Only 3?

The only other one I know of is Nordic.

Of course, if you've read any of my previous posts, I recommend EarthLinked DX above all others.

When I said cheaply I meant a quality system without being taken advantage of. yes quality generally costs more but I have seen many times in life that spending more doesn't always equate to better. And from what I've seen and read things are all over the place. What wew really need is more companies out there with more competition and better economies of scale from the manufacters.

*Why is the demand so low from end users? Shouldn't marketing for these systems be above and beyond the efforts put out by the rest of the industry.

Years ago I was taught, in a sales seminar, that in order to be successful in sales you have to sell the sizzle, not the steak.

Perception trumps reality, almost always.

Even a retired engineer can build a house successfully w/ GBT help!
