Hello All,

I'm installing my first geothermal system at my home in southwest Ohio. The time has come to install the horizontal loop, and I want to run the figures by the pros to see if I'm on the right track. The heat pump is a Trane Axiom GEHB048 4 ton, the flow rate 12GPM, single pipe in trench at a depth of 6 feet in damp silty clay. My Wright Soft trial S/W says I need 1200 feet of 1 inch SIDR 9. I have 2100 feet of 1 inch available, and was thinking of running two loops of 1050 feet each (parallel operation). Am I in the right ballpark ? Will additional pipe be a worthwhile investment ? I have 10 acres to spread the pipe out on, so no problems there.

Thanks for the review. Dave S.

Good loop design generally gives one parallel path per ton. More pipe is always better, but the payback diminishes.

What does Trane suggest? Go with that and be safe.
