I had a geo-therm system installed in the house we built. We have the afore mentioned system for the downstairs but have a smaller 2 Ton variteck for the upstairs. Both units are supplied by two circulating pumps in series. This is a closed pond loop.

This summer the system performed great. Now however, the 20 degree nights leave a lot to be desired of this system. I have had a terrible experience with the outfit that installed the system. I feel like I know more than they do and I know squat. I found a company in another town to come bail out the original installers. They basically filled / charged the pond loop. I had them come back out two weeks ago and put another charge on the loop. For some reason, it was air bound.

I figured this might solve the inept performance of the envision unit. Then it got COLD for a couple of days. The system runs for hours and willnot get above 71 deg. Of course since I do not have zone control (didn't know, wasn't offered) our bedroom is quite cooler than that...

What I have done is checked the Y1 and Y2 terminal with referenct to the common and 24V is present when calling for stage 2 heat. Looking and reading the installation manual I found dip switches misaligned according to the book. I have placed them in the position per the book. This seemed to have allowed the fan to function on variable speed. Last night I placed a thermometer between the heat exchanger and blower. Air temp is about 81 deg...shouldn't this be near 100 deg?

Any thoughts on where to go from here? Water temp best I can tell is 49 deg.

I have the same WF Envision GSHPs - my 3 and 5 ton units are on either side of your 4 ton unit.

Here are a couple of charts to give you a sense of what these units should be doing - note that it's all exclusively 1st stage operation for me.

My supply air at the moment is in a range of 95 - 96°, noting that return air is coming in in a range of 72° - 75°.  Thus, my delta air temp, return versus supply, is in a range of about 21° - 23°.

I would think you'd see something similar with your 4 ton Envision unit - again note this is 1st stage only.

A lot more info on these Envision units is available at http://welserver.com/WEL0043 .

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Bill

This is a definite problem.  It almost sounds like your fan is on high speed and your compressor is on low speed.

Did you cycle power to the unit after making dip switch changes - or better yet, have it completely powered down when you changed the switches? Without that step, changes may not have taken effect.

I third the motion - you should have at least 20 degrees rrise in air temp across the unit, probably a bit more
