For years now my clients have used Water Furnace geothermal heat pumps.  However, in the last few years I have heard complaints about new installations and Water Furnace not standing behind their product line.  Before another one of my new clients install a geothermal heat pump I have to ask - is there any geothermal manufacturer that we can rely upon when something goes wrong.  I know one or two great installers but they are not in a position to pay for replacement units when there seems to be no other cure.

I don't think the WF problems we are hearing of here stem from bad equipment, rather they seem to come from bad installs and then misguided repair attempts. I think you'll find similar / identical subcomponents (compressors, reversing valves, coax heat exchangers, circ pumps) within units from all the leading brands.

While I agree with Engineer regarding quality of components, I have been more attracted lately to GeoExcel out of Indiana. It is a relabled FHP with a few specific modifications including a brown-out lock-out which is handy with our aging grids in MI.
President Jay Hammond has made the point clear that if a compressor goes bad under warranty, we can decide wether part replacement or unit changeout is indicated. This is great for us and the customer.
Good Luck,
Joe
