Has anyone looked into the McQuay DIY geothermal system? I just stumbled across it today and it looks interesting, and affordable. I'm not a DIY but the video certainly made it look do-able. There seem to be genuine testimonials on the site by people who've put it in. www.mcquayservice.com

I have mentioned before that there are charletons whose brand of choice seems to be McQuay. Be careful you get what you paid for or anything at all. One "distributor" had the web-site down and answered a cell phone when I called the "office". No listing of that "supply house" in local telephone directory. McQuay never heard of this "distributor". No internet foot print......
I'm willing to bet he could take my charge card information right over the phone though.
Go to McQuay's website and see if your "distributor" is listed in their directory.
Oh by the way some show up but are single stage R-22 units which work fine but may not be what you wanted.
I sell to DIY's at all levels. I will do load and design for $200, or just install unit metal.......
Recent job was single stage, R-22 unit with metal and plumbing for open loop. Installation was tricky, took 3 pros 10 hours (30 man hours) H/O is handling electric and drain. I may have had a couple grand in it, but if average DIY tried it himself, he'd have torn down confinig basement walls to get at it and spent weeks.
Point to the story is this DIY recieved a locally available brand (with locally available parts). Same part and labor warranty as any turn-key customer, tax credit worthy work and equipment, proper design and the unit up and running in one long Saturday for a few thousand (before tax credit) more.
I encourage DIY's to consider if they really want 100% of the responsibility or if they wouldn't be better off hiring parts of the job out.
Everyone has their talents. In the case of the homeowner mentioned above, he'll spend a few weekends working overtime at his craft instead of a month of Sundays trying to do mine.
Good Luck,
Joe

ingram water & air equipment sells a diy kit made by mcquay, this kit looks easy to install and they offer several video clips explaining the process.

I like the videos, nice quality work done by Daryl & Bubba!
Now you have to ask yourself; If I were selling this product would I want to show these videos to prospective buyers?
That said, I think McQuay makes a decent GEO but it's all about the install!

Make sure the unit selected is on the energy star list. You can say that you don't require a tax credit with their prices, but it does make the project 30% more expensive.
