Newbie, here.  Can't seems to find the answer I want, so I'm posting a new topic.

Have a log house between Lakes Erie and Ontario, 1100 sq ft open concept 2 floors.

Have an older TETCO geothermal closed loop (no water) manufactured about 20 yrs ago and 2 wood stoves.  I would like to upgrade to a 2 speed motor so I can circulate the air constantly on low speed.  Can't find out if this is possible with this TETCO unit.  Can't supply model etc info at this moment but can do later.

Anybody know?  Thanks.

Probably not. Older PSC blowers are fixed speed, selected by changing where a lead wire is plugged. Newer ECM motors need the unit to have the smarts to tell it what to do. TETCO almost certainly lacks such ability in its control board.

Thanks for the reply. TETCO says it has no kit for retrofit, but that a 2 speed fan can be used if a modification is made, namely a relay switch that will keep the low speed on when heat is not required and turns the high on when the thermostat calls for heat.

I'm sure he is referring to a PSC motor and on low you will only reduce air flow about 20%.
Just so your aware of that.

In other words the relay is a primitive system to automatically change to a lower PSC blower speed tap on a "G" call only?

In an odd coincidence I was today shown a tapped DC blower motor intended as a retrofit to PSC blowers. It didn't have the smarts of an ECM blower motor but supposedly provides some of the low speed efficiency of the ECM system for a PSC blower.

I have a 3 ton unit with an ECM blower and I set it for continuous fan in winter to even out temps and ventilate kids' bedroom at night. We just added an obstreperous cat to the family that wakes kids at all hours if door is left open. Clamp Ampmeter reports that my 1/2 HP ECM blower uses just 0.3 amps at lowest speed

You may have just found another use for your sealed attic...

Left up there this cat would probably chew a hole in my ductwork and travel using it...

Does that really work?
I thought about that but was afraid I'd blow the fan energizing two taps at once, if there was a call for G at low speed and the control board called for high speed at the same time.
I'd figured a four speed fan just had a four segmented coil, and high speed energized all four; while low just energized one. So there wouldn't be any harm in a parallel voltage to the low speed coil, but I didn't want to risk it.

I'm pretty sure you tap just one at a time, or factory installed smoke comes right out.
