Hi,

I want to know if my 3 ton Tranquility 27 unit fan speed is set right.

My unit is installed around end of may, cooling is fine and is comfortable. Now comes winter I notice my unit is on aux heat alot so I put on delay on the thermostat for 120min before it kicks it after stage 2 and if its needed. I believe geothermal takes a while to get heat started after the unit is turned on correct?

I notice even know heat is coming out of the register, there isn't much air flow until aux heat is kicked in which i believe is stage 3. So I looked around the settings and found all the speed setting for fan and heating and cooling is default, by reading the manual, I switched the speed tap setting on the ECM board for heating and CFM to speed 3, after that it I do seems to get alot more air flow on stage 2 and it seems to warm the house faster. I read from someone on this forum that it said the unit need 350cfm per ton, so base on my setting on speed 3, the manual said it is start at 1000cfm on stage 1. My house is not insulated very well so that might also be a big part of why takes forever to heat the house. The installer didn't really did much on the duct work except put in a new custom duct for the return air and a fitting for the unit to the exisiting fiberglass ductboard I have. I am also thinking that the ductwork is causing some of these problem and I should redo the whole duct with metal.

My thermostat is ATP32U03, is there anyway to keep stage 1 on longer before it goes to stage 2? If anyone know any good settings on the thermostat, let me know.

I think at night time my house temp goes down to somewhere around 58-60, if I leave the unit at 60 when I go to sleep, I don't think the unit is running, but lately because its so cold, I set it at 62 and the unit seems to be running all night long, should I switch back to 60? sorry about some of my grammar.

Thanks for the help.

Make sure you have Smart Recovery enabled and use the program settings.  This will help keep your system running in lower stages longer if you program the changes you want (assuming the temperature changes that you want are predictable.)  If you set the thermostat back at night, I wouldn't set back more than 1 or 2 degrees because it is hard for the system to recover when it is very cold outside without using higher stages.  You may want to consider not setting back at all at night.

I try to avoid manually increasing the thermostat temperature.  This can bring on multiple stages faster than using the program settings with Smart Recovery.

I would like to do that but I think I would be wasting electric all night since my wife and I will be using a nice warm blanket. we get up around 6:30am and leave around 7:30am, so I don't even see the point of having it on in the morning until I'm home around 6pm.

Not sure I follow what you mean be wasting electricity. For instance, you could set a thermostat program to raise the temperature to 62 degrees by the time you get home from work. You can also have a program to keep the temperature at 60 for sleeping.

If you wanted to, you could set another wake up temperature of 62 until you leave for work, and another program to go back to 60 while you are at work.

With your thermostat, the settings are called Wake, Leave (for work), Return (from work), and Sleep. You can even set different times for different days.

Unless something unexpected in your schedule comes up, you can use the benefit of Smart Recovery and be comfortable. Programmed properly, this feature will not waste electricity by maintaining a temperature that you don't want, and you will have the benefit of running in lower stages to recover from the small setback.  Just make sure Smart Recovery is turned on so you will get the benefits from it.
