System made no such noises when first installed, but progressively over the past month or two, the loops at the manifold connection have started to make weird knocking, thumping, tapping noises when the system is running. I'm not sure how to describe it. It happens usually on start-up and for the first few minutes, then at occasional intervals while the system is running. It will knock a couple of times for maybe 30 seconds, then go back to normal. I can hear the "rushing" of the coolant in the pipes and when the knocking happens, that "rushing" changes, then goes "back to normal". I've contacted my HVAC guy and am waiting to hear back from him. Just wanted to post for ideas and also in future if people have the same problem. I tried uploading an audio file, but it says that's not allowed. So, instead, I posted the audio file to my website. Please go to: http://www.wyss-leclair.com/geothermal.wma to hear the sounds. |

I didn't hear the file, but sounds like you have air in your loops |

I had actually noticed some little air bubbles inside one of the gauges on the manifold. One day I was watching, the system came on, did its usual thumping, then suddenly the bubbles were sucked out of the gauge and the noises completely stopped. Everything back to normal. I guess the bubbles went somewhere....will they return?? |

The system needs to be flushed
and not with a garden hose hooked to the hot water heater |

The following is a loop pressure question, not a purging question. Can the hose and water heater be used to add loop pressure if the sediment is first flushed from the water heater? Or is it best to use a hose from an outside faucet since it is easier to just flush out the hose? |

sure, we have done this when pressure was needed. |

Thanks Dewayne. I saw our tech do this and wasn't sure if this was a good practice for adding pressure. |

For what it's worth, I was at Lowe's this week. Our store carries a 3-pack of garden hose washers with a relatively fine mesh screen built right into the washer. This may help at least keep some larger particles from clogging the pressure ram or getting into the system since the mesh appears finer than the small opening at the tip of the pressure ram. Less than $2.00. I assume other stores carry these as well. |

I would not go out of my way for these screens simply to bump pressure in system. j |

Suggested as an ounce of prevention... :-) For fun, I'd be happy to mail one installer one of mine to see what you think. Just PM me.

Our new geothermal system has been installed for about two months now, I have noticed that the heat coming from the vents is very noisy, sounds like a blizzard is going on in the room, this is mostly occurring in the bedroom, I have not noticed it from any other rooms with the heating system? Is there a way to quiet the noise in this particular vent that is making so much noise? |

Amber,
You might want to start a new thread so your question will not be lost. |

Not sure if i ever posted somewhere else, but this was resolved. There was air in the system and a good purge sorted it out. |
