Wife heard a noise after I left for work. She went downstairs and noticed the 1.5 year old Envision 3-ton unit had a red light next to Water Flow and the unit was in emergency heat mode. Called in service and they replaced the schrader valve caps and had to put in 3pds of freon. This is the 5 the tech has heard of (2 he has done and 2 from another tech) were the oem caps o-ring deforms and presses down on the valve releasing the freon.
The unit is back online and working. The 6-mn PM was just a few weeks ago. The tech even suggested me might have overtightened the oem caps. I looked at the oem vs the replacement caps and the replacement was much more HD.

I am not very familiar with WF. But I would be surprised to hear that their valve caps made refrigerant leak out of a new packaged unit. I guess anything is possible. I really hope your installer verified sufficient water flow before adding 3lbs of refrigerant. Air flow would be nice too, from your pic it looks like you might be a little shy on return air. |

I share the skepticism, but a package unit comes properly precharged. Envision 3 ton package comes with 78 oz, so adding 3 pounds is quite a lot. I've had a somewhat similar experience - 60 degree LWT at the same time as 30 degree refrigerant temp, causing mine to lock out. At first I though HEX was fouled, but switching to cool made LWT and refrigerant temps match at about 80. Adding a bit of refrigerant has fixed the problem, for now. I need a leak detector under the Christmas tree.
