Dear Sir,

I live in Spokane, Washington (Zip Code 99019).  Just moved into a new construction and believe that our KWH consumption with this newly installed system.

I have installed the Tranquility 27 5 Ton 2-stage heat pump in my home. it is a new construction finished this last November. 5500sf (2700 sf per level rancher). it seems that good portion of the time both heat stage are on, even when the inside temp meets the thermostat. temp. My daily usage in Dec in the Northwest as 130 kwh/day. Although I have almost all things heated by electric (Avista Utilities), lighting are only minimal (with 100% CFL and LED lighting). the only bigger kwh use appliance is the 50 gallon electric heat tank.

the thermostat I am using for 2 zones are: Honeywell FocusPRO TH6000 series and Honeywell Vision PRO IAQ.

My observation:  after both zones temperature meet the requested temperatures on the thermostat and the Honeywell HZ432 TrueZONE purge both stage heat for less than 10 min, both stage heater kick in again while the thermostat in both zones are still at the 70 F and 69 F's target temp.  when both stages heat are on, the meter runs about 20amps (about 234V).  the problem is that the interval between the heaters are on is only about 10 minutes.  and I believe this is going on 24/7.

My question is: will this 5 Ton (5 vertical pipes 200' down) Tranquility 27 sufficient for the house of this size? and does this system seems functioning correctly?

tks. for your advise.

Hong,
The problem may be your expectations.
If we presume January is among the coldest months of the year, then your unit shouldn't be shutting off much at all.
If your installer gave you the "geo design" paperwork as part of his/her presentation, the bin data within will tell what percent of the hour your system should run at a given temp.
For instance the system I'm designing this morning would run 72% of the hour at temps around 32* and 100% of the time once we are belowthe high 20s.
At a glance your electric usage doesn't seem high but their is much I do not know about your situation (heat load, electric usage without heat pump etc.)
Even furnaces properly designed these days run quite a bit more than the old gas guzzlin behemoths of yester year.
Among the things that are less efficient than a unit that seldom cycles off would be a unit that only runs for 10 minutes at a time.
