Last August I had a Water Furnace Envision GTHP installed. Last fall it started making a very annoying humming noise. Water Furnace's solution to the problem was to have my heating contractor install an additional insulation blanket. My feeling is that this will only mask the problem but not correct the problem. Are there any other Envision GTHP by Water Furnace system that have a similar complaint? If so, how was the problem rectified? Thanks.

I have a Water furnace Premier system, it makes some noise when it's running, I can even hear it upstairs, but it's not that noticeable.  Where is your system installed? How loud is the humming noise you hear? The compressor makes some noise, regardless of what brand you have.

Once in a while, our DSH line vibrates against the cabinet (where the DSH line comes through the hole in the front panel of the cabinet) and made a good deal of noise. I fiddled with it gently. The vibration has not come back.

Mr. Schneider,

As we discussed with you on the phone, the compressor is a mechanical item, and mechanical items can and do make noise. We sent an engineer to your home. Unfortunately, there was no noise the day he visited.

It is our understanding that your contractor is willing to work with you, and has been attentive to your complaint. We have offered suggestions to your contractor to address the noise issue; however, you have refused to let them address your concerns with our suggestions. At this point, the resolution to your noise issue is to install the compressor blanket that we have sent to your contractor.

Every major manufacturer currently employs the same compressor. I am not a WF dealer but can tell you their noise mitigation is amongst the best in the business today.
Unit should be mounted on a base of some sort. If shipping brackets are employed on your model, they should be removed.
Inexplicably I have had success in changing the polarity of the electric feed.
Initial sheet metal should be insulated and canvass connectors (vibration isolation in the code lingo) should be employed.
Soft plumbing connections help as well.
If all that is true, the installer has done all possible and we should explore expectation.
If 1st stage is louder than second it is quite possibly a compressor issue.
Keep an open mind and know that you have a good product and a manufacturer that is interested in the out come.
Good Luck,
Joe
