I'd sooner install ground loops than travel 400' to a pond.

The 400' could be a ground loop - essentially a hybrid system.

Horizontals are difficult down here - warm sandy soil and looonngg cooling seasons. Sometimes we have severe summer droughts - perfect storm conditions for a horizontal loop.

Hybrid is the idea! We feel we can reduce the pond loop piping to 4 X 500' with the total 800' 1.5" feed / return. Gauged the pump capacity around 3 to 4 GPM / ton. Do you think it could be less?
