Has anyone had any luck or a source for a washable filter for their geothermal unit?

Have a few customers interested and the local supply house does not and doesn't plan to sell/stock them.

Thanks
AJ

I remember someone ordered washable filters from here. I'll probably give it a try as well once my current supply runs out.

It was probably me.  Works very well.  Get 2 to buy you time to clean the dirty filter during the winter.  From the dirty side, I vacuum mine with a shop vac, spray with a mild cleaner, then hose off from the clean side.  Always comes out looking like new.

Not sure if the 2" version has more media than the 1" version, or if the frame is just thicker.  Extra media in this type of filter won't gain much additional time between filter changes since the surface of the filter loads with dirt (it's not pleated.)  We bought the 1" version since our Envision came with 1" filter adapter plates.  I have no affiliation with this company except for buying this product.

Not everyone likes electrostatic filters, but at least one other pro here does.  People with severe allergies may require a better filtering method.

Tried, but can't resist - permanent filters are an "investment."

I got my 1" thick filters for my CM TTV 027's here: http://www.boair.com. They're three years old, and they still look like brand new. I tend to clean them outside with a garden hose in the spring, summer, and fall, and just shop-vac them in the winter.

Do these really do a proper job keeping the air coil clean?

I went with
http://www.lifetimeelectrostaticfilter.com/sizes_pricing.htm
because I needed a custom sized filter for my GeoMax 2 (ClimateMaster). I love it, and it's easy to wash and dry or vacuum.
I got the 1" filter. I didn't note (and slightly regret) that the standard sized filters are 1/2" smaller that the listed size, but the custom filters are EXACT sizes. I ordered (I think it was) a 24x30 filter, and it's exactly 24x30 and quite a tight squeeze into the filter slot. I should have gotten 23.5" x 29.5" so that it would slip in and out easily.
Arrived in good time, very well made - stiff aluminum frame, riveted, media visibly traps dust.

A snug fit is quite desireable, within reason.

That media visibly traps dust is good, but the key end result is keeping the coil clean.

I was cleaning my coils every 6 months, but last year decided to cut back to every 12 months.  I'll let you know in the spring how our coils look, or feel free to remind me if I forget.  Bergy can probably answer this question when he gets a chance.  I recall he provides (or used to provide) electrostatic filters to his customers.

Stuart, good point on sizing.  Have you tried wiping the frame with a little lubricant?  With the dustfighter filters (screwed aluminum frame and lifetime guarantee), I called and ordered an exact custom size at no additional charge (at least when I bought them.)  I ordered 1/8" less in one dimension to make sure the filter would slide in our packaged unit.  I actually might have been able to go full size.

It should be noted that filter cleanings need to be done more often than a pleated (disposable filter) due to dust/dirt loading the surface of the electrostatic filter more quickly (less surface area.)
