I apologize if this question has already come up, but I am having difficulty searching the forum.

I recently had a geothermal system installed and have a buffer tank for the desuperheater.  The installation manual shows a "Vented waste valve or Vent Coupling" between the Tee on the supply line and the DSH In port.  What is this and were can I buy one?

Can you ask the company that installed the system?

Dunno the term. Can you attach the pic from the installation manual?

Thank you for the replies.  I've attached the diagram from the manual.

Perhaps this is a bleeder valve to purge air from the lines.

Homeowner with WF Envision NDV038 (packaged) & NDZ026 (split), one 3000' 4 pipe closed horizontal ground loop, Prestige thermostats, desuperheaters, 85 gal. Marathon.

That's what I first thought, so I bought a ball valve with a drain on it, but then I read this thread and got to wondering if I needed something like a T&P valve.

They also show the non-buffer tank config and just have a note that the setup with buffer tank "maximizes hot water generator capability"

If you pipe the desuperheater as shown a vent is not needed. Piped as shown, you simply close the ball valve on the inlet and open a hot water tap somewhere. This forces ALL the water, and air,  through the desuperheater, back to the tank and out the tap.

Bergy's diagram above is a classic, has appeared here hundreds of time, and should be in this forum's 'Hall of Fame' postings!

Best regards,

Bill
