I apologize if this question has already come up, but I am having difficulty searching the forum.
I recently had a geothermal system installed and have a buffer tank for the desuperheater. The installation manual shows a "Vented waste valve or Vent Coupling" between the Tee on the supply line and the DSH In port. What is this and were can I buy one?

Can you ask the company that installed the system? |

Perhaps this is a bleeder valve to purge air from the lines. |

That's what I first thought, so I bought a ball valve with a drain on it, but then I read this thread and got to wondering if I needed something like a T&P valve. |

They also show the non-buffer tank config and just have a note that the setup with buffer tank "maximizes hot water generator capability" |

If you pipe the desuperheater as shown a vent is not needed. Piped as shown, you simply close the ball valve on the inlet and open a hot water tap somewhere. This forces ALL the water, and air, through the desuperheater, back to the tank and out the tap. |

Bergy's diagram above is a classic, has appeared here hundreds of time, and should be in this forum's 'Hall of Fame' postings!
Best regards,
