Hello, I have a question for the experts or whoever else would know. I have a Climate master Geothermal unit and I am installing evacuated tubes for solar thermal. Since my Geo unit extracts heat from the water to heat my home on 50 degree ground water...would it make sense to use the solar thermal to bump my supply water up to 100 degrees so my geo unit works less? The max inlet temp on unit is 120 degrees. Appreciate any input. Thanks

Probably not.

If you can't use the water at the temperature it is coming out of your solar system then putting it through your geo unit seems like a good option... the warmer the water going into your geo unit the higher the cop is. ... if the solar unit heats the water high enough for showers or heated floors them use it directly. ... good luck

Max inlet temperature of 120*F is for cooling, not for heating. A source of 100*F water is best used directly if at all possible as NBC notes

james at thermal battery systems employs an underground storage tank to collect solar btus. his observation is that the terrific temperature difference between a tank of geo brine and solar heated water is such that btu harvest is superior to solar thermal heating (water or space conditioning). I believe this would also be superior to direct employment of heated water to geosystems, which would quickly give up it's heat to surrounding soil limiting the impact on COP.
