I have a Climatemaster geothermal system from which the desuperheater is used with a 50 gallon hot water heater. My hot water heater tank has developed a leak and so needs to be replaced. Does it make sense to replace it with a Heat Pump Hot water heater? I am based in Mass and the rebates from MassSave ($600) and the savings they project seem to have a quick payback. I am assuming that the desuperheater can still be used in combination with the Heat Pump water heater. Am I correct?

Desuperheaters work best with a 2 tank set up. Non-powered electric tank connected to the DSH and the heat pump water heater as the finishing tank.
Otherwise just get the HPWH and shut off the DSH.

Thanks Chris.
Since I don't have room for two tanks in the basement, I decided to upgrade to a HPWH.
And we rarely have the air-conditioner, the heat pump runs only for a few hours in summer.
The plumber who installed the heat pump didn't connect the desuperheater and so there is no water going through the HWG in the heat pump.
So we have disconnected the desuperheater. Now I need to disable it.
From what I read in the manual, I need to turn dip switch SW12 back to on to disable the HWG on the ClimateMaster 27 TT split model. 049.
Do you know the SW12/dip switches are located? Is it on the main CMX board inside the ClimateMaster? I only see four dip switches there.
Feel I like I shouldn't need to get a tech just to move that one dip switch.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I remember 4 dip switches on my board, one is the on/off switch.
I would also follow the wires from the DSH pump and disconnect them, while the main breaker for the HP is off of course.

Sorry but have been out of town for a while and hence unable to check back on the site.
I checked the wiring diagram on the ClimateMaster and this is an older version (2007) before they had the dip switch control. So, Chris, while I had to get an electrician to do some other wiring, I got him to disconnect the wires from the DSH pump. Only the previous installers had wired them in a strange way (in series with the compressor) the electrician said. So he rewired it and disconnected the DSH pump. Thanks!
Thanks for the link to the manual but I think my unit is an older unit and does not have this board. The HWG is not controlled on the board through dip switches.
